Dueling Blade

What is Dueling Blade
Dueling Blade aims to promote physical training in a virtual reality game context. As
COVID19 has limited most of the outdoor activities, people are seeking something
flexible for them to exercise more. Our project is a real-time multiplayer game where
players compete with each other. Swinging swords and dodging from enemies
attacks to workout intensely. Making physical training more entertaining.

Meanwhile, our study also helps to understand the limitation of sport in virtual reality.
This helps to show the viability of comparing virtual reality games with real sports.

A wireless virtual reality headset is worth exploring. Especially, more applications can
be done with the device as the flexibility.
Core Mechanics
The core mechanics remaining the same. And different features are added due to the player test feedbacks. New haptic, visual and audio feedbacks to improve the overall experience for players.
How to trigger attack
Both attack and defense moves require the players to move their bodies. 

By swinging the arm with the sword holding, a projectile “Qi” will be created and fly towards the enemy if the force applied to swing the arm is above the requirement. Two different types of Qi can be made by swinging the arm horizontally and vertically separately. 

The score will be rewarded to the players who successfully contact the opponents with their Qi.
Dodging
To avoid getting hit by your opponent’s Qi, the only way is to dodging the incoming projectile.

By moving left or right, the player can increase the chances to dodge the vertical Qi. And by squatting, the player can increase the chances to dodge the horizontal Qi.
Rage Mode
Each time a player successfully creates a Qi, the Rage Mode will be filled by a small amount. Declination of the Rage Mode amount will occur a long time. It can act as an accelerator, as well as a decelerator.

If the Rage Mode amount reaches the requirement (default at 75%), the player will be given the ability to release more powerful attacks and an extra score will be rewarded.

To avoid spamming of attacks, disarm punishment will be given to players who have their Rage Mode amount reached 100%. The disarmament will keep affecting them until the amount declines to 0%.
Virtual Avatar
in game Players are able to play with a virtual body with just three position trackers from headset, and controllers. It help players to interact with other players online with their body language. And even making the game more fun. Helping players to engage in social interaction.
Gamemodes
In the current version, there are two modes both featuring one on one combat, player vs bot & player vs player. In the player vs bot mode, the attack frequency of the bot is constant and the attacks are always in standard mode. It is made for the players who wanted to practise and for those who like single player game modes.
Rounds
There will be a total of 4 rounds of combat in each match. The first round is a warm-up round, made to let the players get their hands and legs prepared and fully warmed up.

No scores will be given in this round. For every other round, rest time will be given based on the previous combat round time. The longer time of the previous round, the longer the rest time.
Economy & Currency
“G-coin” is the only currency in the current version. It can only be gained through combat. It is mainly used for item purchases, such as swords and avatar appearances.

Players are able to trade for the visual appearance of the weapon with G-Coin. It is a high motivation for player to keep playing the game as well as doing sport.
